Honowai Elementary is an elementary school that services grades Pre-6 in Waipahu, HI.
Honowai Elementary School was first called Waipahu Elementary II when it opened its doors in the year of 1967. Honowai was housed on the Waipahu Elementary campus from 1967-1968 and moved over to their current site the following year. When the first principal of Honowai, Walter Tanaka, planned the school, he organized teachers in two or three classrooms to team teach. He also had a vision to create the library into a full-fledged media center. Curtis Young, another Honowai Elementary principal, helped to bring together Walter Tanaka's vision for the library. He implemented the Honowai's Science Technology Center. All students are able to explore physical and earth/space science in this center. Honowai Elementary services students from preK-sixth grade. Honowai Elementary currently has 32 regular education classrooms. Teachers in grades Kindergarten to 5th grade currently loop with their students for two years.
